For some reason people seem to really like me here. Between friends requests, desires to be my “special friend”, and marriage proposals I get a little overwhelmed. My marriage proposal total is at 4 right now. Thankfully, polyandry is not my thing. I do find it very interesting that everyone is so direct. Some men honestly want use you as a means to get to America. Others are ready to settle down and start a family. Some just find you interesting and want to spend time with you. Regardless of the reason, I seem to find myself trying to shake off yet another suitor.
During a conversation with a friend about dating in Ghana, he mentioned that persistence is key. “The first time,” he says, ” the woman might say ‘no’. The second time she might say ‘no’ again. But the third time she might say ‘maybe’ and that is how you know you’re in there.” Truer words were never spoken. Luckily I do my best to make sure that my ‘yes’ means ‘yes’ and that my ‘no’ means ‘no’. With a little under two weeks left, I hope to slide through airport security without a promise ring on my finger.
